Vic: Shell oil spill raises questions over health and safety

Up to 29,000 litres of petrol spilled from a storage tank at Shell's Geelong refinery
last night, raising concerns over health and safety at the site.

Refinery manager JACK HAMILTON says the initial cause of the spill appears to be the
failure of a non-return valve.

Shell Australia spokesman ROB HART says the spill at the refinery south west of Melbourne
was contained by an onsite fire crew and the Country Fire Authority around midnight.
